INTRODUCING: Folk-Fantasy Fashion Makers N&S Gaia to Bespoke Your World

You might have already seen BYW’s Instagram posts featuring contemporary folk Indian Fashion Makers N&S Gaia. I wore their hand-embroidered organic cotton culottes while out and about in Notting Hill, and just loved styling them with minimal heels and a sharp tuxedo jacket. Their pieces are super-luxe boho, hand-painted and hand-embroidered in flowing shapes and silhouettes… countering this with masculine tailoring, for me, creates outfits that are truly unique and thought through. I’ve chosen these culottes, and an amazing shirt dress in my personalised edit, watch out for more pieces I’ve selected over on BYW’s Instagram.

One of the things I like most about N&S Gaia is the motifs and designs they work into their pieces. Humming birds, flowers, butterfly wings – the collections have a relaxed folk charm done in a unique way. As we all know, Modern Day Folk Lore is a huge trend for Spring Summer, and I love N&S Gaia’s different take on the trend, using large appliquéd images as well as ultra-fine traditional embroidery – contemporary and artisanal at the same time. N&S Gaia empower artisans in rural India, helping preserve and strengthen techniques that are generations old. Their designs translate this tradition into something that is unique, contemporary, modern and wearable.

The results are clothes that people can’t help but ask about. I wore this beautiful cornflower blue shirt-dress to an evening event, going formal, but in a relaxed care-free way… everyone asked about the dress, who it was by, where I had got it, and the bird motif was such a talking point.

The culottes, and the shirt dress – staple summer shapes, in new exciting designs – are undoubtedly key pieces for the season. For more of my personal edit of N&S Gaia’s collection, be sure to keep up to date on the BYW Instagram page. Just obsessing over this new contemporary folk style.
